The House that Judd and Bubba Built-Week 5

We now have a roof, windows, insulation, bath tubs, siding and the wiring for cable and phones. Next week, they will be adding the bricks!

Classic Bo

Bo cracks us up on several occasions on most days. This week was no different, and I had to post my favorite "Bo quote" from this week.

One morning, Tyler was joking with Bo about choosing not wearing a shirt to work, and Bo seemed convinced that Tyler could get away with it without a problem. Tyler said, "No way. My boss would fire me!" Bo replied, "Then you'd have to stop, drop and roll!"

He's also super excited about Halloween, and he has been learning different Halloween songs and stories that he sings at home several times a day.

This was his artwork/homework from this week that he designed. He had to draw five little jack-o-lanterns on the gate but he added lots of details to go with the story. He even drew a light and the wind to blow it out. (I'm not sure why this picture keeps rotating sideways when I try to load it...)

Here are a couple pictures of smiley, happy Molly from this week too.

Molly News

We took Molly to her visit with the pediatric neurosurgeon this week. He did pretty much the same exam that her pediatrician did, and he said that everything that he saw did not indicate that her larger-than-average-head-size was most likely related to genetics. Her soft spot on her head is soft and she has good motor skills. Her head was still off the growth chart so he said that we could have a CT scan just to rule out the possibility of any other conditions. However, he said it wasn't necessary and after talking it through, I think we are going to see how her six-month well-visit goes before we make an appointment for a CT scan. We may just follow up with the neurosurgeon if her head size gets any further away from the norm.
Of course, I took a few pictures of her while we were waiting for the doctor in the exam room.

Fall Festival and other fun

Giant slides, tractors, pony rides, buying cute hair bows (thanks Shelly's Studio!), listening to live music, playing in the corn box and eating funnel cakes--that's what the Oconee Fall Festival is all about for the Boykins!

This was Bo in the corn box last year...

...and this year, it was still lots of fun!

And here are two more cute pictures of the kids from this week:

The House that Jack (or Judd and Bubba) Built

We are thrilled that we finally sold our house and are building a new house! It will hopefully be ready around Christmas, and we can't wait to have a house with enough space for a playroom so that our living room won't be taken over with the kids toys anymore. :) Tyler's dad, stepmom and my mom have been so supportive as we've worked on closing on our old house, and they have helped us so much to get what we need to build our "dream house." We are so grateful for their help, and we can't wait to move into our new house once our builders Judd and Bubba (only in the South, right?) get it built. Until we finally move in at the end of December, enjoy the weekly updates of progress!

Week 1:
The lot is cleared
Week 2:
The foundation is poured

This week, they have been working on framing the house. I'll take a picture of it this weekend to show you the work that has been done this week. It's so exciting!!

Bo's 4th Birthday

Bo loved having so many friends and family members there to celebrate with him for his 4th birthday party this year. His party was Spiderman-themed, and he received SO many fun presents that he has not stopped playing with ever since his party. We had the party at a local park and it was perfect for all of his friends to run around and play at. As you'll remember from previous parties, for whatever reason Bo does not like bring sung to before he blows out his candles on his cake. This year, we decided to skip the singing in order to "save the singing for his actual birthday" (which was later during the next week). It worked out perfectly, and there were no tears shed for once. He had a great time, and he is already talking about being 5 on his next birthday. :)

Here he is getting his thank you notes ready to put on his party favor bags.

Special thanks to Tyler's Uncle Baxter for taking pictures of Bo's birthday party!

We put the decorations up at our house for the next week after his party. :)

This is the card that Molly's babysitter made for Bo as a present from Molly. How sweet is that?

Last swim lesson

Bo made a ton of progress this summer with his swimming. Hopefully he'll be able to jump in the pool next summer and remember all of the tricks and skills that he learned this summer.

Two months of updates...

Things have been quite busy for our family lately so I apologize for not updating the blog in over two months...

We're back at school so our days are fun-filled while our evenings are often a little hectic as we all wind down from the day and get ready for the next one.

Bo's back at the same daycare that he went to last year, but it is different for him this year because he is one of the oldest kids there this year rather than one of the youngest. I think he enjoys being around so many little ones, especially because he is still on cloud nine since he became a big brother.

At the end of August, Bo went to his four-year well-visit at the pediatrician and he did great. He weighs 35 pounds and is 40 inches tall. Right now, Bo is very much into superheroes, Toy Story, Star Wars, Cars, the tv show "Super Why," drawing, playing instruments (he now has a harmonica and a saxophone too), sports, riding his bike and making Molly smile. He has started to show a great deal of interest in writing his last name, but we have to convince him that he has to write Bo Boykin rather than just Boykin when he writes his name. He thinks that he doesn't need to write the Bo for his first name since it's already in the name Boykin. He had been going to a soccer skills group once a week and did great with that too. The eight-week soccer class ended so now we are looking forward to starting basketball.

Molly is doing great with her babysitter Diane (we call her "D") who keeps Molly during the day. D is expecting her first baby in February so Molly is making sure that she learns everything that she needs to know before the baby comes! We could not be any happier with the wonderful people who are taking such good care of Bo and Molly.

Molly's had three doctor's appointments since the end of July. She had her four-month well-visit which went well. She was up to 14 lbs, 4 oz (50th percentile), 25 inches (75th percentile) and her head circumference was (no surprise) off the chart. During that appointment, the doctor asked to see her again in a few weeks to re-measure her head. At the follow-up appointment, her head circumference was still off the chart so he recommended that we have an ultrasound done to rule out the possibility of fluid in Molly's brain. Everything looked great at her ultrasound, and we went back to the doctor last Tuesday for a follow-up measurement. Unfortunately, her head was even further off the growth chart than it was at her last appointment so it was recommended that we take her to a cranial-facial specialist who should be able to tell us what our next plan of action should be. Before we go to that appointment, she will have her six month well-visit and we are hopeful that between now and then she will get back on the growth chart and we won't need to do anything else. The doctor said that there is a slight chance that she could need a CT scan, MRI or surgery if her head structure isn't forming correctly, but he also recognizes the genetic factor in all of this. Let's face it--Bo, her daddy, and other relatives and cousins also share her larger head-size gene. She seems to be meeting all of the milestones so we're not overly concerned about our "big brained baby." :) We're just trying to remain optimistic that the growth will level out. (By the way, her weight was up to 14 pounds, 9 ounces at the follow-up appointment @ 5 months old.)
Her favorite things to do right now are to go on walks outside, play in her exersaucer, take baths, listen to Elmo and to be around anyone who will smile at her. She's so social, and it's been such fun watching her interact with people. Her least favorite things right now are the hours between 5:45-6:45pm (she usually gets tired and fussy and she's not very happy unless she's held) and riding in the car for more than 10 minutes. She's doing pretty well with the solid foods that she has tried. Her menu includes any of the following: rice cereal, squash, peas, sweet potatoes, green beans, carrots, applesauce and bananas. I think squash and peas are her favorites and cereal is her least favorite thing to eat right now. Although it seems a little early, she may be getting a new tooth because she is drooling like crazy and she is constantly putting her hands in her mouth. She gave up using the pacifier about a month ago so anything and everything that she can get her hands on ends up in her mouth.

Here are some pictures of videos of both kids that I took over the course of the last couple of months. Enjoy!
